| Repentance. It is something that talked about often in the Church and in "born-again" Christianity. The Church has become very good at letting us know when we mess up and how often we mess up. Which is actually very true. It's not hard to realize how often we sin and mess up. In Hebrew sin means to miss the mark. The question is what is the mark that we are missing? I think missing the mark is missing the best way to live our lives. When I am rude to my room mate I instinctively know I am not living the best way possible. When I walk past a homeless person on the street I know I am not living the best way possible because they are not living the best way possible, and part of our calling as humans is to help others to live the best way possible. There is something in us that lets us know we are not living life to the fullest.
So here I am fully aware of this sin, this incomplete and sub-par way of living life. But what I was reminded of was that not only am I prone to sin but I am also prone to goodness, love, faith, hope, action, and the best way to live life. The power of the Holy Spirit through Jesus from the Father that is in me makes me prone and empowers me to live life to its fullest. I guess the question is, "Am I living life with the idea that I will continually miss the mark? or Am I living life knowing I have the power to live life to the fullest and bring others into that full life?" I am very aware that I am full of earth and dirt, but I need to remember that I am full of You. Love.
P.S. I posted some pictures I have taken over the years here. I don't have a guest-book there yet so you can leave me some love here.
| warning: most of the posts on this page will be longer than a few sentences So I spent this weekend with my family. They live right on the beach (yeah that's right, the beach). It is always great to be with my family and especially my two brothers. Chuck (older brother) and Mike (younger brother) are awesome. Neither of them practice Christianity and I don't think they would call themselves Christians per se, but they are two of the most generous and unselfish people I know (which is supposedly the call of Christianity). Chuck has no problem giving his money to people and he is always the first person to help strangers. Always. It amazes me. And Mike would drop anything for anyone. He lost 14 credits of school because his then girlfriend attempted suicide last year (she is fine now). That's it. gone. one semester of school. Finals or a human and he chose human.
So anyway...I was talking to Chuck about money and Jesus and I was telling him about Jesus' radical call to generosity and self-sacrifice and how I think America's biggest problem (sin if you will) is its dealings with money. I told him that these are the things about Christianity that excite me. and he said yeah...me too. He told me that he always thought of Christianity as going to church and coming home. And I thought about it too. If Christianity was simply going to church and coming home then I would say it was boring and pointless too. but it's not. Christianity is a radical movement seeking freedom and equality for everyone through the love, empowerment and example of Jesus. If only the church would catch this vision. How exciting and enticing Christianity would be. LOVE.
| I have recently had a desire to write again, so this site will once again become active. Hopefully I can keep it updated and interesting and thoughtful. Look for new things to come. Love. | | |
| i have a growing love for the immigrant population in this nation. i went home last night and skipped school today to spend time with my mom and while we were there comcast sent a repair team (aka two people) over to fix our tv. it was two polish guys. one guy had been here for 5 years and the other for 4 months. i spent like a good 30 min just talking to them about coming over here, family, and learning english. i was drawn to them to them. i dont know why, but i was. then while i was talking to them i had this thought. i wonder what they think of my lip ring? do they find it repulsive? do they chalk it up to spoiled americanism, kids who can do whatever they want and dont respect anyone? cause thats not the image i want. so maybe i will take my lip ring out. but then again i really appreciate being approached by people in public because of it. i have had so many conversations because of it, with people i might not have had before. with it i alienate one group and draw another. hmmmm....a conundrum. well, things to think about. | | |
